Gran Turismo 7 Delayed Out Of 2021

During an interview with GQ, PlayStation head Jim Ryan gave out plenty of good news, including confirmation of the next iteration of PlayStation VR and that Days Gone is heading to PC, but not all the news was positive. Ryan was asked about the status of Gran Turismo 7, the upcoming first-party racing game slated for release this year, and the question was quickly tackled by Sony PR representatives. They did however offer the following statement which was included in the interview:

“GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.”

Gran Turismo 7 was officially announced back on June 11th, 2020 and was never given a firm release window beyond 2021 before its delay. The storied racing franchise has always served as a graphical benchmark for every PlayStation generation, going all the way back to the first Gran Turismo on PS1 in 1997. Gran Turismo 2 followed in 1991, also on the PS1, before making the jump to PlayStation 2 with Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec in 2001 and Gran Turismo 4 in 2004. The PlayStation 3 also saw two GT releases with 2010’s Gran Turismo 5 and 2013’s Gran Turismo 6. Gran Turismo Sport was the only GT entry to make its way to the PlayStation 4, releasing in 2017. There were also two “Prologue” side entries to the series, as well as a PlayStation Portable version in 2009.
