The next generation is here, but one thing that has been conspicuously absent is Virtual Reality. It as all the rage a few years ago, and Sony did a wonderful job of supporting VR through their Playstation VR Headset for more than 4 years. That’s why it was a little odd when it was revealed that the headset wasn’t compatible with the Playstation 5 out of the box, instead requiring you order a special adaptor.

Now we know it’s because Sony was preparing a new generation of headset.

Revealed today on the Playstation Blog, Sony has announced a new PS VR headset. Boasting higher resolution and a simpler, one-cord setup, Sony admits that development is not yet complete on the headset and we won’t be seeing it this year. They have no yet committed to a release date.

Interestingly, Sony has also announced a new VR controller as well. They say it will “incorporate some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller”, so it looks like the age of the Playstation Move controller has finally come to an end.
