5 Games To Get Excited For In July

The first half of 2019 has flown by, with many releases that are gunning for Game of the Year status. Games like Resident Evil 2, Sekiro, and Devil May Cry 5 may be leading the pack, but there are still six more months worth of games that could take the top spot, including any of the five on this list. Here are five games to get excited for this month.

The Messenger – Picnic Panic DLC

Release Date: July 11th, 2019

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, PC

First up is technically not a new game, but a free DLC expansion for one of the best titles of 2018, The Messenger. The throwback ninja sidescroller/Metroidvania will be going tropical with its Picnic Panic DLC, that features new areas, enemies, and memorable boss fights. If you want to jump right into this DLC when it launches tomorrow you’ll need to complete the main game first, so make sure to get on your Playstation 4, Nintendo Switch, or PC and see the end credits to be ready for some Picnic Panic.

Dragon Quest Builders 2

Release Date: July 12th, 2019

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4

There have been many examples of a well-known series jumping into the unknown territory of a new genre as of late, but perhaps none of those examples did it better than Dragon Quest Builders. Blending the popular JRPG series with the addicting terraforming of Minecraft worked perfectly when DQB was released in 2016, and Dragon Quest Builders 2 will take that winning formula and expand upon it on July 12th. Make sure you have three spare controllers, as Dragon Quest Builders 2 will support up to four player cooperative play.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order

Release Date: July 19th, 2019

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

I’m not sure what is more surprising, the fact that we are getting a third Marvel Ultimate Alliance in 2019, or the fact that it is a Nintendo Switch exclusive. While there is a “3” in the title, The Black Order will be a fresh start for the series developed by Team Ninja and published by Nintendo. The Black Order will feature a massive cast of playable characters, including members of the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Defenders, the X-Men, and more. The one thing that remains to be seen is how deep the RPG mechanics will be in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which is something the original title was praised so highly for. We’ll find out soon enough, when we dive into Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order on July 19th.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood

Release Date: July 26th, 2019

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

One of the highlights of any Wolfenstein game is seeing the alternate reality that MachineGames and Bethesda have dreamt up with Nazis winning World War II. With Wolfenstein: Youngblood we will get to experience that all over again, as we will get to witness an alternate version of the 1980’s where the Nazis reign supreme. Not only that, we’ll also get to play as two new characters, Jess & Sophia Blazkowicz, as they search for their father B.J., who has gone missing. Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a spin-off we cannot wait to get our hands on when it arrives July 26th.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses

Release Date: July 26th, 2019

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

It’s hard to believe that there hasn’t been a main entry to the Fire Emblem series on consoles since Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn launched almost twelve years ago on the Nintendo Wii. Sure, we’ve had installments on the 3DS and spinoffs for the Switch, but a main entry for consoles has been long overdue.  Fire Emblem: Three Houses has been one of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch titles since its development was teased in 2017, and the wait will soon be over when Three Houses hits shelves on July 26th.

As you can see, July is going to be a rough month for the wallet, especially on the 26th. Which titles are you picking up this month? Which of these games would you like us to review? Let us know in the comments below!
