Square Enix hosted an online event today (18/03/21) showing off some of their upcoming games. To save you some time, the games announced are detailed below. However, if you would rather watch the full event, you can find it on YouTube here.

Outriders (Releasing April 1st, 2021)

According to the trailer, Outriders is a new co-op RPG shooter set in dark original sci fi universe. The game will have four different classes, and the trailer highlighted that there would be a variety of side quests available to players.

Tomb Raider 25th anniversary

For the 25th anniversary of Tomb Raider, Square Enix announced a few interesting things, but, unfortunately, a new mainline game was not among them. However, they did state that more announcements will be coming in the future, so there is still hope for a new entry in the series. The announcements are listed below:

  • Tomb Raider anime series coming to Netflix
  • Updates on the sequel to the live action Tomb Raider movie released in 2018
  • Crossover with Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint
  • Crossover with Final Fantasy Brave Exvius
  • Progress update on the lost valley statue
  • A Tomb Raider cookbook (yes, you read that correctly)
  • Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy: a collection of the three reboot games (available now)
  • Croft Manor is coming to Fortnite

Mobile Games

Information was given for a few upcoming Square Enix mobile games. They are listed below:

  • Just Cause Mobile (available soon)
  • Hitman Sniper Assassins (coming 2021)
  • A Space Invaders augmented reality game (no release date)

Balan Wonderworld (releasing on March 26th)

Marvel’s Avengers Updates

A next gen update is coming to Marvel’s Avengers on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. It is promising 4k 60fps, better textures, improved effects, and faster load times. The update will be free for all existing owners of the game. Gameplay of Operation Hawkeye Future Imperfect was also shown. Black Panther will be coming to the game later this year in Black Panther War for Wakanda.

Life is Strange: True Colors (September 10th, 2021)

A new Life is Strange game was announced alongside the revelation that players will not have to wait for chapters to be released. Players will be able to play the full game on day one.

Life is Strange and Life is Strange: Before the Storm Remaster Collection (Fall 2021)

The games are said to have improved graphics. It will be available to purchase or to those who purchase the Life is Strange True Colors Ultimate Edition.

Project Athia (2022)

A short scene from the game was shown and the true title was revealed to be Forspoken. PC and PlayStation 5 were listed as the platforms it is coming to. No other information was provided.

Well, that is everything Square Enix announced at their event today. I hope you found this useful and are looking forward to some of their new games. Whilst I’m disappointed there was no new Tomb Raider game shown, maybe making some Tomb Raider inspired food using the upcoming cookbook will pass the time. However, I always imagined Lara Croft’s diet to be more like a Bushtucker Trial from ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here so, on second thought, maybe I’ll just replay the old games instead.

What did you think of the games announced? How did this compare to the latest Nintendo Direct and State of Play? Let us know in the comment section!

George Fidler

George started his gaming journey with a PlayStation 2 and the Simpson’s Hit and Run. He rage quit Dark Souls but finished Demon’s Souls, and is currently playing through the Final Fantasy VII remake again. PlayStation and Switch are his platforms of choice, but he can hear Halo Infinite calling him back to Xbox. Believes that everyone with a PS4 should experience God of War.
