Nintendo Switch Lite Announced

It seems as though the rumblings over the last few months about an economic version of the Nintendo Switch were true, as the Nintendo Switch Lite was officially unveiled today. Before we breakdown what exactly is different about this lighter, more compact console, check out the “first look” video below:

The Nintendo Switch Lite is designed completely for handheld gaming, as it cannot be docked into a regular Nintendo Switch dock. The first obvious feature is the lack of detachable Joycons, which is a big cost savings. The IR motion camera that is typically located on the bottom of the Joycon is removed, as well as the HD Rumble feature. This means that games which require those features will need separate Joycon controllers in order for you to play on the Lite model.

One major improvement on the Nintendo Switch Lite is the one-piece directional pad, which is a big step up from the traditional Joycon directional buttons. It remains to be seen if that will become a feature for future Joycon models.

The Nintendo Switch Lite will be launching on September 20th, 2019, at a price point of $199 USD. What do you think of this new Switch model? Are you picking up a Nintendo Switch Lite on launch day? Let us know in the comments below.
