The next Destiny update is 18GB, and it’s mandatory

When Destiny: The Taken King arrives next month, it’s bringing with it a sizeable update for all players, whether they plan on buying The Taken King or not.  According the the official Destiny website, The Taken King update will be 18GB for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game, and 10GB for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.  This will bring the total size of Destiny to 60GB (PS4, XB1) and 30GB (PS3, XB360) respectively.

Since Destiny is an online-only game, this update is mandatory and may cause problems some players.  Those who play Destiny on the last generation of consoles may find that the game becomes unplayable due to owning a console that contains a harddrive smaller than the required 30GB, and players on the current generation may have to free some space in order to have 60GB free for Destiny (especially if they’re equipped with the stock 500GB HDD).  For Xbox 360 and PS3 players that will be unable to play Destiny, Bungie and Activision recommend either upgrading the console’s hard drive or contacting  Activision support.

Bungie warns that Destiny may require even more space in the future as the game continues to be updated.
