Gears of War 4 Matchmaking Still Down – The Coalition Offers Compensation

It’s been over 48 hours since the matchmaking service for Gears of War 4 has been unavailable for the majority of players.  Players are unable to connect to games in either versus or horde mode, and the issue is affecting both public and private games.  For players who are able to connect, the play experience is generally stable but reports have been filing in of games not being full and XP and credits not being awarded correctly after the match ends.  According the the developers, the root cause of this issue was the introduction of the second Series of unlockable cards and having all season pass owners open their card packs at once.

Matchmaking is still experiencing issues as of 4:45 PM EST.  The developers have been providing updates on the progress of a fix via the official Gears of War forums.

The Coalition has promised to compensate affected players through in-game events.  In the original plan, this weekend was supposed to host a special Developer’s Playlist for season pass holders – a playlist that gives double XP – as well as offer a set of exclusive cards and skins available only for the weekend.  Both of these offerings will be extended for another 24 hours, and next weekend the game will host a double XP playlist that can be used by all players.

We will update as the story develops.

UPDATE 7:30 PM EST 16/01/2016

Everything seems to be resolved.

UPDATE 9 AM EST 16/01/2016

Most players are reporting that everything is working correctly, but there are still some lingering issues for certain players.

UPDATE 9 PM EST

The Coalition has deployed a fix, but players are still reporting widespread connection issues and are receiving no credits for completed matches.  The Coalition has assured players that they will receive their credits and XP, it will just be delayed as the servers catch up.
