5 Games To Get Excited For This July
2020 has been a roller coaster of a year, but it hasn’t slowed down the barrage of great video game titles in the last six months. In the first half of 2020 we’ve seen numerous contenders for Game of the Year both in the AAA and Indie scenes. The train keeps rolling in July, as we see the last pair of big Sony exclusives launch, as well as a nostalgic remake of a beloved farming sim, an Indie RPG gem, and a big Nintendo Switch release . Here are five games to get excited for this July.
Marvel’s Iron Man VR
Release Date: July 3rd
Platform: PSVR
It has been a rather light year for VR titles on PlayStation, but next Friday PSVR players will finally be able to suit up as Tony Stark: Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, when Marvel’s Iron Man VR hits shelves. Using PlayStation Move Controllers, players will take flight and blast away baddies using the latest and greatest Stark tech, which can be upgraded and customized. Camoflaj’s Iron Man VR may just be the last big PSVR game before the release of the PlayStation 5, and it will be available on July 3rd.
CrossCode
Release Date: July 9th
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One
Back in late 2018 Radical Fish Games, the developers behind the successful Indie RPG CrossCode, famously said that a Nintendo Switch version of the game would be “coming to Switch when Hedgehags learn to fly.” Now, almost exactly a year and a half later CrossCode is not only coming to Switch, but to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on July 9th. The retro-inspired Action RPG was well-received by critics and fans alike when it was released on PC, garnering an 86 Metascore and a 8.2 User Score. Console players will soon be able to get in on the action and see what they’ve been missing out on.
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town
Release Date: July 14th
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC
A remake of one of the classic Harvest Moon titles when the series was arguably at its peak, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town hits the Nintendo Switch and PC on July 14th. A remake of the Game Boy Advance version from 2005, Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is the age old tale of a young farmer who takes over the family farm, planting crops, tending to livestock, and building relationships with the citizens of Mineral Town along the way. New playable characters, marriage candidates, and overall game enhancements await players who will be taking the nostalgic trip back to Mineral Town on July 14th.
Ghost of Tsushima
Release Date: July 17th
Platform: PlayStation 4
In just three short weeks the last of the major AAA Playstation 4 exclusives will finally hit shelves, as players will get to see the fruit of Sucker Punch’s labour on July 17th. It has been a long three year wait, but soon PlayStation players will be able to jump into 13th century Japan as Jin Sakai, the last samurai of Tsushima Island. Ghost of Tsushima will introduce an open-world void of waypoints to encourage exploration, as well as “Samurai Cinema” mode, which pays homage to the classic Japanese cinema it draws inspiration from. It won’t be long until this Game of the Year contender lands in PlayStation 4 owners’ hands.
Paper Mario: The Origami King
Release Date: July 17th
Platform: Nintendo Switch
In a bombshell of a surprise announcement last month, Nintendo revealed that not only would there be a Paper Mario title hitting the Nintendo Switch in 2020, but it was coming out in just two months from the day the trailer dropped. Sporting a new ability, the 1000-fold arms, the paper plumber returns as a new adventure unfolds with a unique battle system. Longtime Paper Mario fans have been cautiously optimistic with the series for the last fifteen years, and for good reason, as the quality has never quite lived up to the Gamecube release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Will this be a return to glory for Paper Mario? Or will it be another Sticker Star? Only time will tell when Paper Mario: The Origami King lands on Nintendo Switch on July 17th.
