5 Original Xbox Games We Want on Xbox One

Microsoft deserves a round of applause for their commitment to backwards compatibility. In an age where this feature is often overlooked for the next big thing, Microsoft not only introduced the feature, but went one step further and took it back two generations. The Original Xbox is an overlooked system, and it’s thrilling to be able to not only revisit some of the classics we might have missed, but also have them upscaled.

So here’s our take on 5 Original Xbox games that we’d love to see become backwards compatible with the Xbox One.

Jet Set Radio Future

If JSRF has anything, it’s style. A sequel to the Dreamcast original (and part of Sega’s stellar Xbox lineup), Jet Set Radio Future is all about skating and graffiti-ing. Roller-skate around a futuristic Tokyo and graffiti walls while you enjoy the cel-shaded graphics and the absolutely killer soundtrack. Even today there’s not much out there like JSRF, and it would be a legitimately great addition to the Xbox One’s library.

Burnout 3: Takedown

Burnout 3 is arguably the best arcade racer ever made. No, scratch that. Burnout 3 absolutely is the best arcade racer ever made. It throws realism out the window and takes a turn for the dramatic with the spectacular Takedown system. Taking out other cars is cinematic, visceral, and probably the most fun I’ve veer had with a racing game.

Granted, Burnout 3 has an extensive licensed soundtrack that pretty much ensures it’ll never get a re-release or upgrade, but we can dream, right?

Timesplitters: Future Perfect

The Timesplitters series was the spiritual successor to Goldeneye, but we haven’t seen one since 2005’s Future Perfect. It’s a time-travelling shooter that doesn’t take itself too seriously and is loaded with features. Want to defend a against a horde of genetically-enhanced monkeys with shrinking weapons on your own custom made map? You can do that.

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

What’s the original Xbox without Splinter Cell? While both the original game and Pandora Tomorrow are great games, the best Splinter Cell on the Xbox is easily Chaos Theory. The game is stealth action at it’s finest. Not to mention it’s probably the best looking game on Microsoft’s first console, and would still look stunning in 4k on the Xbox One X.

Oddworld: Strangers Wrath

For my money, Stranger’s Wrath is the best Oddworld game. Instead of a platform, Stranger’s Wrath is an action game that has you hunting outlaws in a semi-open world environment. Not only was the live ammo system – the game’s system where you collect animals and bugs to use as ammo and combine them for various effects – ahead of it’s time, the entire world was wonderfully odd and unlike anything we’ve seen since.

Stranger’s Wrath has since seen the upgrade to HD for PC and PS3 players, but with Xbox players left out in the cold this would be the perfect addition to the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list.

What do you think? Agree with out choices? Are there any other Xbox games you’d love to see make their way to the Xbox One? Let us know in the comments so we can tell you how right you are!
